Y’all know I’ve been busy scurrying away working on NC Real Estate. I shout it around and act like nothing is a problem. Find out here why I do this and how I deal with it when my problem brain shows up.

N.B. I give it to you as a real person, who does run into problem brain. Scroll down to ‘So how do you GET OUT OF PROBLEM BRAIN’ for evidence of this.

I love people coming and reading all my stuff. It’s designed to inspire, provide great info and make being a property investor, entrepreneur and property manager just fine at what ever level you are at.

Learning on the Job

I can’t pretend to know everything today. But, I have been learning quickly (I think!). I’m quite a determined, I want things to happen right now kinda person. So, when things don’t move as quickly as I hope I get frustrated.

My exercise routine is usually first thing in the morning, but today I have an afternoon training session. When I woke up I was tired, frustrated and searching for some numbers to quantify that what I had been doing was working. Yes I could look at website hits, advertising hits, and interaction with my readers and yes it’s gone up. But it just wasn’t doing it for me.

So I went for a walk to get focused and chill out in my own. I was searching around for what made me think things were going well and what was really working for my brand.

There ain’t no problem here

One of the biggest things I’ve been trying is the ‘No Problem’ approach. On the outside nothing appears to be a problem. More often than not this convinces my internal chatter that it’s not as well. When emailing someone, I will be positive, and explain the great things about NC Real Estate. If I’m chatting to someone I will let my passion shine through, not my nerves or set-backs. When there are delays or hold ups, I put trust that the people in the know are working hard for a resolution. If there is decision to be made I will make a finite decision and get my team moving. I will celebrate the small targets and forget the no-shows.

On days when this No Problem attitude takes root, I can breeze through my tasks and get creative about future projects. More people come and look at my brand and I get to speak to some amazing people. Business moves forward on it’s own accord and I get super excited.

Sometimes problem brain turns up

When the problem brain shows up, it’s a gentle slide to low and that is R-U-B-B-I-S-H. Trust me, it does no one any favours. And I can feel the aura around my company retract. Whether it does or not is a different question, but it makes working on your own a freaking nightmare. You question errry-thang:

NC you’re looking well washed out on your insta stories, and showing people silly things that make you awesome, no one will follow you. Eurgh, your youtube sucks, it’s just all about you and what’s going on in life and tips for other entrepreneurs / property managers / investors – who would watch that? Why would anyone want to read your Facebook, it’s just a bombardment of everything you love designed to inspire the followers you love.  – NC’s Problem Brain

It’s a pain and frustrating. And even more annoyingly, because you are on your own YOU have to get yourself outta your funk so that you can move life on.

So How Do You GET OUT OF PROBLEM BRAIN?

That is the million pound question. It quite literally is, because the minute the No Problem attitude takes root, being an entrepreneur is going to flow back out of your pores.

Please note that this is not an immediate thing. Prior to deciding to get out of my funk I will definitely procrastinate. I jump on WhatsApp and grumble to whoever will listen (thanks guys). I chat to my fish (don’t raise your eyes here, I get lonely when things aren’t going right). I wander around. I think about doing stuff then don’t bother to write it down. You know, all the important stuff is being done, whilst outside life continues.

Give yourself time to get out of this. Please also don’t get frustrated when you read stuff about the most productive people about, getting up at 3am and then using all the hours in the day to do amazingly awesome business related stuff. It’s not helpful here, BECA– USE YOU ARE ALLOWED NOT TO ALWAYS HAVE A PLAN, DIRECTION OR GOOD DAY.

My Top Tips

Once you’ve finished wallowing in problem brain and have decided it’s time to get out of it, here’s the things that I do to get fresh again:

  • Turn up the volume on spotify – the Happy and Confidence playlists definitely hit the spot
  • Write it down – look at this blog, this is me writing it down that I’ve got problem brain right now. I’ve actually laughed at myself on a number of occasions.
  • Go and spruce yourself up – seriously getting out of the clothes you were wearing during your funk is a sure fire way of changing the mood
  • Get a change of scenery – take yourself out of the bad feeling environment and do something else. Gym / Coffee / Lunch… your choice, just do something for you.
  • Accept the funk and move on – Once you realise you are in problem brain, forgive yourself and turn your attention elsewhere
  • Read an awe-inspiring book – get inspiration from someone else and use that as motivation

Today I choose the gym option and I feel so much better for it. But all of the above works!

… Productivity has reassumed!…
