I think that one of the biggest things about moving to London is finding your pad. A recent search had the requirements of quiet location, near Chiswick (for work), £600 pcm in rent per sharer, close to central London and two bedrooms.

We found this flat within budget at £1,200 pcm and beat off other interested parties through ensuring that our applicants were ready to go and had what it took to be great tenants!
It’s often thinking outside the box, in areas which may not have the tube links, but are accessible by other transport means which helps to find reduced rents but not compromising on other things within your search.
